New Super Mario Bros. is a side-scrolling 2.5D platform game first released for the Nintendo DS in the United States on May 15, 2006, starring Mario and Luigi. It is the tenth entry in the Super Mario series[6] and, not counting re-releases and remakes, the first side-scrolling platformer in the series to be released since Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, 13½ years prior in 1992, starting a new revival of the 2D Mario platformers, succeeding the Super Mario Advance series. The game features a solo story mode with Mario or Luigi, a two-player wireless Mario Vs. Luigi mode, and a minigame mode for up to four players.
